There is considerable confusion surrounding eligibility numbers for the NRCME national exam. The testing companies, PSI and Prometric, use their own terminology, referring to the required number as an eligibility number, when in fact they are seeking a provider's 10-digit National Registry number. This number is assigned by the DOT when providers create their account with the DOT/FMCSA. Since testing companies administer exams across various industries, we advise against contacting a test center directly to schedule the NRCME exam. Testing company staff may not have comprehensive knowledge of all exams they administer, leading to misunderstandings about NRCME exam requirements.
